Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

I live in an HDB flat, how do I install Wattson ?
Wattson can usually be installed at one of two locations, near the electricity meter where the mains electricity cables are easily accessible or near the MCB (inside your home) where there is usually plastic or metal casing that hide the mains electrical cables. There are several places where the electricity meters are located in HDB flats. You will usually find them in an electrical riser, in a locked box just outside your main door or on the top portion of the wall beside your main door.

I live in a condo, how do I install Wattson ?
Wattson can usually be installed at one of two locations, near the electricity meter where the mains electricity cables are easily accessible or near the MCB (inside your home) where there is usually plastic or metal casing that hide the mains electrical cables. In most condominiums, you can usually request for the management committee to unlock your electricity riser so that you can access your electrical meter box. Here you will find the mains electrical cables where you can placed the sensor clip over. The riser will have several electricity meters. Please ensure that you attached the sensor clip to the meter
that has your unit number labelled on it.

I live in a landed property. My mains electrical cables are concealed in casings and my meter box is located at my gatepost. Where should I install Wattson ?
You can install Wattson at your gatepost where you will easily find the mains electricity cables. However, please make sure that the transmitter is not exposed to rain or direct sunlight. Alternatively, you can install Wattson in your home at your MCB or by accessing the cables that run inside the plastic or metal casings. If in doubt, please contact us and we will guide you through. If you are unsure, please contact us and we can arrange for someone to help with the installation at a small service fee. You should not attempt to access the MCB or pull at the electrical cables if you have no electrical knowledge.

How accurate is Wattson ?
Wattson measures your electricity usage with an accuracy of between 97% – 99%. Wattson is not meant to replace your SP Services electricity meter but more for you to understand your electricity usage in your home.

Does the device tamper with the electricity usage ?
Wattson measures electricity usage by measuring the electromagnetic field generated by the current flowing through the mains electricity cables. Wattson does not affect your electricity meter readings and there is no direct electrical connection.

How do I install Wattson ?
Please see the Installing Wattson section

What do the lights on the Wattson mean ?
The lights on Wattson gives you a visual view of your electricity usage. Wattson is smart and over time, learns your average electricity usage. Blue lights are good and it means that your current usage is below your average. Purple lights mean that you are using your average and if you see red lights, that means you are using over your average.

Wattson is showing Out of Range. Why is this happening ?
The maximum distance between the transmitter and Wattson is 30m. Wattson will show Out of Range if you go beyond this range. However, because of concrete walls that might affect the wireless signal, the range may be reduced. If you see Out of Range, place the Wattson unit closer to the transmitter. It could also be that the batteries on the transmitter have become weak. In this case, replace the batteries and normal service should be restored. If the problem persists, please contact us.
